The "off key" tone has never bothered me since she wouldn't be playing a real song anyways. She loves the colors which are vibrant and loves to just play with the mallet... maybe that should lower the rating. LOL! I like the other plan toys xylophone better, but I do believe this can be fun for infants who like to pound away. The colors are certainly beautiful. It is still in perfect shape. My little ones have enjoyed pounding on the colorful wooden keys and making chaotic noise (which I much prefer over the batter operated music toys). I love that it allows them to make their own music and imagination. The mallot often gets misplaced in the toys. I wished that it was somehow attached as we often have to hunt for it every time the kids want to play it (thus my 4 star ratting). Great Quality and I would for SURE purchase it again.
