Holztiger
Why we love
Holztiger: They are the perfect representation of an
imagination-building wooden toy. The way they are made is amazing.
Per the Holztiger catalog: "Holztiger toys are all handmade. First of
all, the contours are stamped out on wooden boards, then the figures are cut
out with a saw. A number of different steps follow to smooth off the
rough surfaces and edges. The wood is then primed and finish-sanded - a
process which results in a particularly smooth and soft surface. Next,
the figures are hand-painted with water paints. To make the figures
resistant to perspiration and saliva, each figure is subsequently painted -
also by hand - with a water lacquer. Once the Holztiger logo is burnt
in, the final step is a trip to quality control before the wooden figure is
released for its journey to the playroom!" Country: Germany Materials: Hardwoods, primarily maple, and
depending on the requirements, oak, beech and birch are also used.
Water-based acrylic paints, which are totally non-toxic. Safety: Holztiger wooden figures comply with the
European Directives for Toys (DIN EN 71) and the
U.S. ASTM F963, which regulate toy safety. The non-toxic paints and
varnishes are furthermore subject to constant quality controls by the state
supervisory authorities. Over and above this, Holztiger makes additional
voluntary commitments to quality and safety. Customer

to life, opening a whole new world of fantasy and games, while also helping to
learn and expand their knowledge. Our traditional handmade toys are
mostly made of maple. This wood being an ideal product of nature due to
its light color and high resistance. The toys are painted by hand, using
non-toxic, water-based paints. The resulting heirloom-quality figures
are collected by all ages."

Maple Landmark: "While much is being made of the dangers of
imported products, there are alternatives. We craft a wide range of wooden
toys, games, and gifts made right here in Vermont, USA. We follow
American standards of product safety, employee safety, and environmental
protection. The shortcuts of doing it any other way are not what Maple
Landmark is about. We design our toys to provide the best in hands-on
learning and exploration. Surely it is becoming an electronic world but
children still need to learn basic manipulation and
construction."

broaden the mind. With over 20 years experience, we have made play a voyage

world made of “preservative-free” rubber woods, including removing all sharp
corners and edges for children’s greater safety. Painting the wooden toys

children."
Sarah's Silks
Why we love
Sarah's Silks: They create the most well-made, colorful dress-up
clothes and Waldorf materials
around. Country: The fabric is sewn in China and
dyed in the United
States In business
since:
1994 Materials: Silk and
non-toxic, jacquard acid dyes. Note: Acid dyes do not contain acid - the only
thing acidic is the vinegar that is added to the
dyes. Safety: Their dyes are non-toxic and made in the
United States, and they are tested by an independent
laboratory. Customer
favorites: Rainbow
Streamers and the Playsilks Staff
favorites: The Rainbow Silk
Scape because it is great for draping over furniture to
make a hideout, or swirling around with friends, and the Tooth Fairy Pillow because it smells wonderful (it is stuffed
with wool and lavender) and is perfectly soft for fitting under a
pillow. A message from
Sarah's Silks: "Just as in ancient times, all our
silk comes from China and some of our products are now made there, too.
Our playsilks are hemmed in a town where women sit in their doorsteps -
chatting and sewing while children play on the sidewalk and run in and out of
their homes. The sewing provides supplementary income so that they can
remain at home and take care of their children. Mike and Josh have
visited and enjoyed getting to know the workers."
Spielzeug Kraul
Why we love Spielzeug Kraul: These beautiful German-made wooden building kits call for both skill and imagination! The finished project can only be made complete through the
creativity of the builder. We also like that the kits are made out of European woods from sustainable forests!
Country: Germany

Materials: Untreated beech, pine, spruce, larch, maple, birch, poplar, and alder woods.
Safety: Exclusively produced in Europe from carefully selected and tested materials according to DIN EN71 safety standards.
Staff favorite: Jumbo Cable Car Kit
Awards: Many of the kits have received the prestigious "Spiel Gut" award, which signifies good quality, a design suitable for children, and the ecologically sensible use of materials; Good Toy Guide (UK) Gold Award
A message from Spielzeug Kraul: "The purpose of the kits by Spielzeug Kraul is to facilitate an intensive playful interaction with natural phenomena and technology. Enjoyment through playing, observing, experimenting, and experiencing through the senses - this is the priority!"
Stockmar
Why we love
Stockmar: They have exceptionally high standards, and there is
nothing like drawing with, writing with, or molding with their beeswax
products. Country:
Germany In business
since:
1922 Materials: Primarily beeswax, light resisting,
harmless
pigments. Safety: From the Stockmar
website: "Stockmar has
always selected the finest raw materials and manufacturing procedures. In
cooperation with an independent institute, all raw materials are carefully
selected and the manufacturing techniques controlled. This guarantees that
Stockmar products are harmless to health and the
environment. "Since
Stockmar considers the standard specifications set by certain regulations to
be too lax, own parameters have been established. For example, Stockmar
doesn't consider the tests to be rigorous enough that are used to determine
the limit for toxic substances in pens, paint and modelling wax, as defined in
the EURONORM Din 71. Here the company therefore adheres to the standards
specified in the food provision ordinance, which are much stricter than the
regulations for the toy industry. In cases where no standards have even been
set by the food provision ordinance, Stockmar has established its own
parameters. In this way a strict internal quality-control system with more
stringent standards has evolved. The Stockmar seal "constant raw material
control" represents these company standards." Additionally, Stockmar wax crayons, Stockmar watercolors,
and Stockmar modelling beeswax have the Spiel Gut, CE, and "AP-nontoxic/For
U.S. use only" certificates/seals of
approval. Customer
favorites: Modeling beeswax and Beeswax Block Crayons in a Tin. Staff favorites: Triangular

Pencils A message from
Stockmar: "With our products, we want to bring colour and form
into daily life. Our products stand for aesthetics, safety and
fun."
